Simba eye third slot

Coach Patrick Liewig.
Simba Sports Club will advance to third place if they win their Mainland Premier League match against Ruvu Shooting at the National Stadium today.

The Dar es Salaam-based side who entered the 14-team league as defending champions have already been dethroned by archrivals Young Africans (Yanga) who won the title last week with two games to go.

A win for the Msimbazi Street side will make them reach 42 points, pushing aside Kagera Sugar. The Bukoba side are currently third on 40 points while Simba are berthed at 39.

Simba will likely use their second string side to face the armed forces side.

Coach Patrick Liewig had decided to use the second in most of their league matches after noticing that standards of most players who were in the first team had dropped.

Liewig is likely to depend on younger players such as Ramadhani Singano 'Messi', Adam Miraji, Abdallah Seseme and Rashid Mkoko.

Azam walk on tight rope

Azam FC squad
Azam walk on tight rope as any slip up in their remaining three matches could easily hand over the Mainland premiership title to pacemakers Young Africans.

The team needs to perfect and win the rest of the fixtures while praying for Yanga to stagnate at the 56-point mark, Azam’s maximum ceiling.

The ice-cream makers are nine points adrift of champions to be Yanga and meet Coastal Union on April 26 at the Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga.

The Dar side is the only team which has the probability of attaining the mark already touched by Yanga after Sunday’s 3-0 wig over relegation-haunted JKT Ruvu.
Any other result other than victory for the ice-cream makers would automatically shatter their title chasing dreams for the season they fought gallantly to lift it.

Azam were not in action over the weekend following their CAF Confederation Cup commitment as they faced visiting Moroccan side AS Far to salvage barren draw.

Yanga need to win or at least pull a draw in one of their two remaining fixtures one against Coastal Union and the other versus dethroned champions Simba on May 18.
